Lebanese Armed Forces

The Lebanese Army has been put to the challenge, but what a challenge it is!

After the terrorism of assassinations, we're now dealing with the terrorism of extremists. Everyone says that they support the army, but you hear voices here and there questioning why the army is acting now, when it played no role during the Israeli conflict last summer. All say that the army is Lebanon's pride, but in other circles they critisize its coordination with the internal security forces. We're one with jaysh lubnan "al3azeem", but let's blame the current situation on the Government.

It doesn't take much analysis to realize that the politicians in Lebanon use every and any excuse to fight each other, to mark a point against the other camp.

It's a Feltman Government, an illegal Government,... so dear fellow extremists, here's your excuse to rise against an all American and unconstitutional Government in Lebanon. Similarly, equally damaging words come from the other camp. You hear words like, this is why all weapons should be in the hand of the Government. We can't build a nation with Hizbullah still armed!!!

There is a collision of ideologies in Lebanon, and the nation is going into more serious problems if there's no middle ground that both sides can live with.

Hizbullah's ideology is that of martyrdom and fighting the enemy,... you can't change them over night. And the March 14th ideology is that of let's blame everyone else and never compromise,... we want the tribunal at all expense.

It's two extremes that will never meet, and all of a sudden we're back to the 70's, when the army was put in the middle of conflicting visions, yet asked to embody unity. Wlik el balad killo m2assam, and you're asking the army not to be divided,... but as we approach September, and the Presidencial elections making the creation of 2 governments a possibility, we might find ourselves once more in the late 80's. Then what?

Today, Lebanon's army is fighting a battle that can unite the Lebanese. So, the politicians should smarten-up,... they should take today's events as an opportunity to show unity,... even if it is fake unity.

Do something, do anything,... or at least stay with the status quo, but don't dig deeper.
